Board feet = (Thickness in inches × Width in inches × Length in feet) ÷ 12. One board foot = 1" × 12" × 12" (144 cubic inches). Note: dimensional lumber sold as "2×4" is actually 1.5" × 3.5" — use the actual dimensions, not the nominal ones, for accurate results.
