Stud spacing guide
Standard residential framing uses 16-inch on-center (OC) spacing — the most common for load-bearing walls and walls that will hold drywall. 24-inch OC is used for non-load-bearing interior partitions to save lumber. 12-inch OC is used for extra structural strength or heavy tile applications.
Always add extra studs for corners (3 studs minimum per corner), window openings (2 trimmers + 2 kings per window), and door openings (2 trimmers + 2 kings per door). Use the "extra studs" field above to account for these.
